Purpose

Great Lakes Bible Institute (GLBI), a ministry of Grace Church of Mentor, exists to equip believers for Christian service through biblical instruction and hands-on ministry opportunities, grounded in the belief that Christ is building His church and has gifted evangelists and pastor-teachers for this purpose. With a staff of experienced and academically trained pastors, GLBI emphasizes the importance of spiritual growth, practical application, and doctrinal integrity, rejecting ecumenical compromises and modern movements that stray from biblical truth. Students engage in various ministries—from preaching and teaching to evangelism and music—while being trained to uphold sound doctrine and live separated from worldly influences. GLBI welcomes anyone seeking personal edification or ministry preparation, offering a Christ-centered environment rooted in Scripture and service.

Summer 2026

New Testament Culture and Geography – taught by Larry Hobbes

Schedule: Monday through Friday evenings, June 8-12.

Cost: $25

Class Overview:

Our summer block course will be taught by Pastor Larry Hobbes on New Testament Culture and Geography. The goal of the class is to give a snapshot of what life was like for the common people of Jesus's time, resulting in a more practical grasp of the context of the New Testament writers and their audiences. We will meet Monday-Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 8-12. The cost will be $25.

Kevin and Sarah Sherman have been serving in Zambia since 2014. Kevin serves as a deacon at Faith Baptist Riverside, and both teach at Central Africa Baptist College. Kevin is also in the midst of a PhD program.

Puerto Rico

Melvin Purvis serves the Lord as Administrative Dean at Puerto Rico Baptist College in Bayamón, training young men for ministry. He was widowed in 2023 and recently recovered from a hip replacement surgery.
