About Us
Leadership & Staff
According to the New Testament, there are two leadership titles for the church: elders (pastors) and deacons (Philippians 1:1 and 1 Timothy 3:1-13). At Grace, elders spiritually oversee and shepherd the church while deacons practically serve the church maintaining unity. We believe that a maturing church enjoys the plurality of both elders and deacons (for example, see 1 Timothy 5:17).
Pastoral Leadership
In the New Testament, three words describe one leadership role: elders, pastors, and overseers. The word "elder" describes men known for exercising sound biblical judgement. The word "pastor" (or "shepherd") describes men leading souls to grow in Christ through God’s Word. The word "overseer" describes men who manage the spiritual care and direction of the church. All three words are used together in 1 Peter 5:1-4 and Acts 20:17, 28.
Staff Elders
are employed by the church to shepherd the congregation and teach the Word (1 Timothy 5:17-18).
Non-Staff Elders
also shepherd the church yet are not employed by the church.
Church Staff
are employed by the church to help the pastors equip the saints to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).
Deacons
These men and their wives (if married) serve the church and help maintain unity (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:11).
